Deer Valley Music Festival and Jewel

After 3 months of anticipation... the Deer Valley Music Festival has officially begun. And none other than Jewel opened up the festival!
To be honest, the loyal country fan that I am, didn't really know much about Jewel. In the past, I've recognized a few of her songs and thought they were pretty darn good. But last night, I discovered the girl can sing! Her voice was amazing. I don't know that I've ever been to a concert like last night where the performer outdid herself, song after song after song. I'm now a converted Jewel believer...

And the venue was great. Even sitting out on the concrete waiting for the gates to open was a pleasant experience with some Egyptian War card playing and fantastic story telling. And we met Bob, good old guy. When the gates did open, and the mad dash to get the "best" lawn space began, we placed on the lawn well. Dboy's pre-show lawn concert gratefully helped get the concert mood sparked. But truly, the highlight of the pre-show lawn concert was when random woman appeared on the blanket next to us and played us her own song about loneliness and resulting bar attendance. She was a hoot, could have been wearing a more modest top, but a hoot none the less.
Deer Valley concert attenders are serious picnic-ers. Our fare of cheese, meats, grapes, crackers was great, but compared meekly to the salmon, tomato and mozzarella cheese salad, cracked wheat bread with pesto, and gourmet chocolate cake the group in front of us downed. And I figure as a whole, the Jewel crowd consumed more wine last night than the rest of Utah combined.
Gratitude shout out to Dboy for the invite. It was great!

I am super envious of your concert, especially the Jewel part! I love Jewel. I think my favorite part of your adventure was the Lady who gave you a private concert about her life. That just doesn't happen everyday.

The Jewel concert experience cracked me up. Your description was hilarious. I onlyl wish I could have heard the spontaneous song the lady next to you performed.
