BIG DOG DADDY
Spent Friday eve hooting, hollering, and clapping my hands at the Big Dog Daddy Toby Keith Concert. I had a moment early on in the evening when I realized it doesn't get a whole lot more redneck in my life. We stopped off early at Texas Road House and had ourselves a steak... in keeping with the genre of the evening and all, surely steak ("man's meat") was the way to go.
Ready Set Go!
Finding excellent seats in the Usana Amphitheatre turned out well for us... but we first had to join the masses in a mad rush once the gates were opened. When the staff finally did allow the impatient, and already semi-drunk, concert goers onto the grass, it was as though the gates of pasture had been opened up for starving animals to graze... mad rush and good seats.
I Made a Friend...Concert going is never complete without a fair amount of time spent people watching. The field was certainly white with good people watching to be had. I'd like to b
elieve I'm a people person, but even I wasnt prepared for the drunk boy who walked right on up next to me and sat himself down on my blanket. I'm figuring there must have been some seriously good chi vibes right around me, because the "well hydrated" young man ended up staying. We never spoke to each other, just shared a blanket... I even took a picture of the strange moment. P.S. Notice my recent pedicure! To whomever you were that shared the blanket tonight, cheers! and I hope you got home safely.
Miranda Lambert opened for Toby and did a "pretty good" job. Near the end of her set, when she wasn't getting the response from the audience that she wanted, she started to cuss at us, I think she thought it was motivational... I learned tonight that Miranda likes to drink (alot). There must have been a dozen times she kept reminding the audience to "drink". After hearing from her so frequently the importance of "drinking" I decided she must actually be a very conscientious gal to be so concerned about our "hydration levels". I certainly can report that most concert goers were well hydrated by the end of the night. As a matter of fact, they were so hydrated they were falling down next to us as they tried to sway to the music.
Toby puts on a good show. He is a fairly good entertainer. Let's be honest here, I went to the show knowing what I was getting myself into... songs about drinking and women. That man is dedicated to his bars. I did get chills when he sang his recent single about being committed to his beliefs and standing for what he feels to be true. And let me tell you, when he belted out those old favorites, my blood got pumping and I entered the memory zone. Turns out Toby Keith has been there, or at least his tunes have, during most of the majorly significant moments in my life. Ode to the songs that bring back memories...
A Man and His Boat... With everyone "well hydrated" at the concert, I suppose I shouldn't have been so surprised when while heading to the exit, a cowboy walking next to me "crossed the line". We got into a conversation about doing the right thing for someone in need when he coyly suggested I go back to his boat with him and do the right thing... I dont think he has a boat... and well hydrated cowboys are not my brand... Don't worry, luckily I had my positive support system there with me, because if I do have a weakness, everyone knows I love a man and his boat!
Shout out gratitude to TA and CC for an eve of laughs and a willingness to look the other way when I "crossed the line". (within boundaries of course)
